Which Psychotherapy Approach?

We use techniques such as EMDR, metacognitive therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Suadiye, Istanbul.

An excerpt from the EMDR chapter of “Hangi Terapi? Psikolojik Zorlanmalara Karşı Etkili Psikoterapi Önerileri,” published by Nobel Publishing. You can find the book here.

EMDR therapy is one of the approaches supported by scientific research and commonly recommended today for psychological problems, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety disorders. Below, I share a short excerpt from the EMDR chapter of a book I edited and coauthored, for those seeking information about the EMDR, metacognitive therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and CBT we offer in Suadiye, Istanbul.

What Are the First-Line Treatments for Mental Health Conditions?

Today, there are more than 100 scientifically validated psychotherapy approaches for various psychological disorders, supported by varying amounts of research. Unfortunately, however, “alternative methods” that lack a scientific basis, and may even do more harm than good, outnumber these many times over.

During the initial assessment with people seeking treatment at our center in Suadiye, Istanbul, we follow an important ethical principle: offering scientifically validated therapies recommended as first-line options in current clinical guidelines. Each person receives information about the therapies recommended in current guidelines for their condition, along with appropriate referrals.

When determining treatment options, we draw not only on clinical experience but also on scientific guidelines and meta-analyses based on the analysis of hundreds or thousands of studies. Personal experience alone, or methods heard about from others, is not scientifically sufficient and can lead to misguided recommendations.

Why Are EMDR and CBT Recommended?

For example, dozens of evidence-based guidelines recommend EMDR therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as first-line treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). For this reason, EMDR and CBT are the first therapies we offer to individuals who have experienced trauma at our center in Suadiye, Istanbul.

In addition, the number of published controlled studies demonstrating the effectiveness of EMDR therapy for depression, anxiety disorders, and many other psychological conditions continues to grow.
